September 19, 2018 (MLN): A high profile delegation of European Conservative and Reformists Group comprising 6 Members of the European Parliament visited Lahore on Wednesday.

The delegation was led by Mr. Hans-Olaf Henkel and five other members of his team.

The visit of the trade focused Parliamentary delegation from the European Union will open further opportunities for enhanced trade interaction between Pakistan and the EU and will also act as a forum to facilitate the GSP+ monitoring mission.

During their visit to Lahore, the delegates visited leading garments units, Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design and LCCI.

EU’s GSP regulations require beneficiaries of its ‘Special Incentive Arrangement for Good Governance and Sustainable Development’ to effectively implement 27 UN Conventions.

According to a press release by the ECR Group, the government of Pakistan is committed to comply with all European Protocols to ensure that Pakistan keeps reaping benefits of GSP Plus Status.

“The visit of the MEPs will signal strong political support for Pakistan in the EU keeping in mind the United Kingdom's BREXIT from EU,” it said.

The delegates were satisfied with the security and human rights conditions in Pakistan especially in the garments industry.

Mr. Javed Akbar Bhatti, Additional Secretary MOC and Mr. Riaz Ahmed DG TDAP briefed the delegation regarding Mr. Younas Dhaga's vision for Emerging Pakistan.

The delegates praised the efforts of Ministry of Commerce in image building of Pakistan and their contribution in enhancing the EU Pakistan Bilateral Trade.
