ECO discusses regional cooperation, trade initiatives

April 08, 2025 (MLN):The Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) initiatives to enhance regional economic cooperation and strengthen its role in promoting trade, commerce, and tourism among its 10 member countries were discussed during a meeting.

The aforementioned discussion took place when Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, the Secretary General of ECO, who called on him at the Finance Division.

Dr. Khan briefed the Finance Minister on the profile and strategic role of the ECO in fostering regional cooperation, emphasizing the importance of regional trade and connectivity.

Both leaders agreed on the necessity of further strengthening regional trade and connectivity, particularly in light of emerging trade corridors and markets within the region, according to the press release issued today.

The Secretary General highlighted the progress made by the ECO to boost trade and tourism, citing the organization’s efforts to enhance engagement with its member countries.

He proposed ways to make the ECO more dynamic and effective in driving regional trade and cooperation.

In response, Finance Minister Aurangzeb assured the Secretary General of the Ministry's full support for ECO initiatives aimed at advancing regional cooperation.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to increased engagement with the organization, ensuring consistent representation in future discussions and initiatives related to regional trade and connectivity.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders emphasizing their shared commitment to fostering collaboration and promoting growth among the ECO member countries.
