Crackdown on smuggling, power theft yields billions in recoveries

July 31, 2024 (MLN): The relevant government agencies are continuing their crackdown against smuggling, hoarding and power pilferage and recoveries of billions of rupees have been made.

The measures, facilitated by SIFC, are effective from September last year, according to the Information Ministry.

Law enforcement agencies have registered 173,212 FIRs against people involved in power theft and arrested more than 83,295 power thieves and recovered 104 billion rupees.

In the ongoing operation against smuggling, several items including fertilizer, wheat, sugar, and Iranian oil—have been seized.
