February 19, 2025 (MLN): CPEC and Gwadar Port are set to play a pivotal role in promoting regional trade and prosperity, strengthening Pakistan’s position as a “natural trade corridor” linking China, Central Asia, and the Middle East, said President Asif Ali Zardari.

Speaking at the closing session of the International Conference on “Regional Connectivity & Pakistan: Emerging Opportunities,” organized by the Pakistan-China Institute at Aiwan-e-Sadr, he reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and economic cooperation.

He highlighted Gwadar Port’s potential as a shared economic hub and emphasized the importance of revitalizing historic trade routes to foster economic and cultural ties.

The President also noted Pakistan’s efforts to explore water transportation from Tajikistan to Balochistan, with a feasibility study completed with UAE support, according to the press release.

Chief Minister Balochistan Mr. Sarfraz Bugti commended President Zardari’s role in the initiation of CPEC, stating that Gwadar would be developed into a global port with world-class facilities.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute, remarked that CPEC would build new regional partnerships and that President Zardari’s recent visit to China had strengthened Pak-China relations, paving the way for CPEC 2.0.

Ahmed Jarwan Al Mohammed, President of the UAE-based Global Council of Tolerance and Peace, praised Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional connectivity and called for enhanced cooperation in business, education, and tolerance.
