November 3, 2021 (MLN): The country’s cotton production surged by 81.24% YoY to 6.257 million bales as of November 01, 2021.

In its fortnightly report released by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Wednesday, it noted that the country produced 3.452m bales of cotton during the same period last year.

To recall, the Cotton Crop Assessment Committee of the Ministry of National Food Security on Oct 07, 2021, in a meeting had revised cotton production in the country for the year 2021-22 to 9.74 million bales.

This notable increase was the result of the hard work of cotton growers and favorable weather conditions that helped in attaining higher yields. This might lead to higher textile production and exports. It is worth highlighting that Pakistan’s textile exports touched a historic high level of US$6.04 billion during July-October FY 2021-22, depicting a yearly growth of 26.86% against the textile exports of US$4.76bn in the same period last year.

As per data, both Punjab and Sindh have reported a substantial increase in cotton production.

Cotton production in Punjab as of Nov 01 was 2.935m bales compared to 1.728m bales produced in the same period of last year, showing an increase of 69.83%. Similarly, production in Sindh soared by 92.67% to 2.321m bales as opposed to 1.724m bales reported in the same period of last year.

Textile mills have so far purchased 5.504m bales while 16.2 thousand bales sold to exporters.
