Cabinet approves first-ever national space policy

December 13, 2023 (MLN): The Federal Cabinet has approved the country's first-ever National Space Policy which will enable private-sector companies to offer affordable internet services in Pakistan, Caretaker IT Minister Dr. Umar Saif said at a press conference on Wednesday.

This will enable increased investment in the national space program, he said.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of a dedicated National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to replace the FIA for cyber crimes.

This new agency will have the required expertise, funding, and resources to prevent, investigate, and prosecute cyber crimes in Pakistan.

Moreover, the Cabinet approved the establishment of a specialized Telecom Tribunal so that court cases and disputes in the telecom sector can be decided without delay, paving the way for spectrum availability for 5G.

The IT Minister termed these as 'landmark decisions' for the IT and Telecom sector.
