Bank deposits increase 1.8% to Rs31.3tr in Sep

October 23, 2024 (MLN): The total deposits held by scheduled banks have moved up by 1.8% to Rs31.34 trillion in September compared to Rs30.78tr by the end of last month.

When compared to the same month of last year, banks' deposits have risen by 19.1%, compared to Rs26.32tr held in September 2023, data released by the central bank showed.

Total advances increased by 4.2% to Rs12.31tr compared to Rs11.81tr a month ago. Meanwhile, advances increased by 3.8% from their value of Rs11.86tr from a year ago.

As a result of weak momentum of deposits and strong inflow of advances, the Advances to Deposits Ratio (ADR) rose to 39.3%, an increase of 90 basis points on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, when compared to a year ago, ADR showed a decrease of 579bps.

Total investments decreased by 1.1% to Rs30.7tr from last month. While compared to last year, investments rose 35.7%.

Investment to Deposit Ratio (IDR) moved down by 288bps to 97.9% compared to last month and increased by 1199 bps when compared to a year ago.
