ADB approves $200 million loan for social protection program, BISP

October 7, 2019 (MLN): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $200 million loan for Pakistan. This additional loan has been granted for social protection program, the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The BISP, considered one of the largest social protection programs in South Asia, is part of a larger government strategy, called Ehsaas, to reduce poverty and inequality.

BISP supports more than 5 million eligible families across the country where 855,000 women or about 15% of the eligible beneficiaries would get benefit through it.

This additional finance will not only support cash transfers but also help to strengthen BISP’s institutional measures.
