Zakat Nisab set at Rs503,529 this year

February 17, 2026 (MLN): The Government of Pakistan has fixed the Zakat threshold (Nisab) at Rs503,529 for Zakat Year 1446–1447 A.H., setting the stage for automatic deductions from eligible bank accounts at the start of Ramadan.

In a notification issued by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety from Islamabad, authorities directed banks to deduct Zakat at source from savings accounts, profit-and-loss sharing accounts, and similar deposits where balances meet or exceed the prescribed threshold.

The deduction date has been aligned with the first day of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1447 A.H., expected to fall on February 19 or 20, 2026, subject to moon sighting. Accounts holding less than the notified amount will remain exempt.

All collecting agencies and financial institutions, including those overseen by the State Bank of Pakistan, have been instructed to ensure strict compliance and promptly transfer deducted funds to the Central Zakat Account.

Banks headquartered in Karachi will play a key role in executing the nationwide process.

The measure aims to streamline Zakat collection while ensuring timely distribution to eligible beneficiaries across the country as Ramadan approaches, a period marked by heightened charitable giving and social support.

Bottom line: If your bank balance crosses Rs503,529 on the first day of Ramadan, expect Zakat to be automatically deducted, unless you qualify for exemption.
