World Bank reaffirms $40bn support as Pakistan highlights reform agenda

September 24, 2025 (MLN): In New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with President of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga, where he lauded the Bank’s long-standing support to Pakistan, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 floods.

The Prime Minister apprised the World Bank President of the Government’s comprehensive reform agenda, covering resource mobilization, energy sector reforms, privatization and climate resilience measures.

He reiterated that these reforms have steered Pakistan towards macroeconomic stabilization, restored investor confidence, and promoted sustainable and inclusive growth.

He expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s new Country Partnership Framework (2026–2035), under which an unprecedented $40bn has been committed for Pakistan, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensure its effective implementation in close coordination with provincial governments.

The World Bank President appreciated the reform measures being undertaken and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to Pakistan’s development agenda.

He emphasized readiness to extend continued support for advancing economic reforms and long-term climate resilience initiatives under the new CPF.

Both sides reiterated their resolve to further strengthen cooperation under the framework to advance Pakistan’s development priorities.
