June 11, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s workers’ remittances reached $3.68 billion in May 2025, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) today.

This represents a 13.67% YoY increase compared to May 2024 and a 16% MoM from the previous month.

Cumulatively, with an inflow of $34.89bn, workers’ remittances increased by 28.79% during Jul-May, FY25 compared to $27.09bn received during July-May FY24.

Remittances inflows during May 2025 were mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia ($913.95 million), United Arab Emirates ($754.17m), United Kingdom ($588.1m) and the United States of America ($314.69m).

In March 2025, workers’ remittances crossed $4.05bn. This surge was attributed to Eid festivities, increased use of formal banking channels, and rising economic activity in the Gulf region, from where the majority of Pakistan’s remittances originate.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reserves are projected to reach $1bn, and remittances are expected to total $37–38bn, said Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb during his FY25–26 budget speech.
