Worker remittances rise 13% YoY in September 2026

October 09, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan received workers’ remittances of $3.59bn in September 2026, down 1.9% from $3.66bn in August 2026, but up 12.7% on a yearly basis from $3.18bn in September 2025, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).


On a historic three month basis, total remittances came in at $10.87bn.


Saudi Arabia retained the top position as the largest contributor to workers’ remittances in September 2026, with inflows totalling $899.1m, up 2.9% from $873.5m in August 2026, and up 19.7% from $751.0m in September 2025.

The UAE remained in second place, with inflows of $748.5m, down 0.2% month-on-month from $749.8m in August 2026, but up 10.5% from $677.1m in September 2025. Within the UAE, Dubai contributed $617.5m, Abu Dhabi $104.5m, Sharjah $13.4m, and other emirates $13.1m.

The United Kingdom (UK) held on to third place, contributing $515.1m, down 8.6% from August’s $563.7m, but up 13.3% from $454.8m in September 2025.

Remittances from the United States (USA) stood at $305.9m, down 0.9% from $308.8m in the previous month, but up 13.7% from $269.0m in September 2025.

Workers’ remittances from European Union (EU) countries reached $447.7m, down 9.7% from August’s $495.9m, but up 6% from $422.5m in September 2025. Among EU member states, Italy led with $133.5m, followed by Spain $84.2m, Germany $68.5m, Greece $48.6m, France $46.8m, Ireland $24.5m, Belgium $16m, the Netherlands $9.1m, Sweden $8.5m, and Denmark $7.9m.

Other GCC countries (excluding Saudi Arabia and UAE) contributed $342.1m, up 4.7% from the previous month and up 14.1% from $299.7m in September 2025. Key contributors included Oman $114.9m, Qatar $99.5m, Kuwait $77.6m, and Bahrain $50.1m.

Among other notable countries, Australia sent $101m, Canada $66.5m, South Africa $26m, Malaysia $13.9m, South Korea $11.9m, Norway $11.5m, Japan $6.6m, Switzerland $5.7m, and other countries contributed $86.2m.
