Vietnam joins BRICS as 10th partner country

June 16, 2025 (MLN): Vietnam has officially joined BRICS as the 10th partner country, reinforcing the bloc’s emergence as a global economic and geopolitical powerhouse.

The declaration was made by Brazil, the current chair of BRICS, on June 13, marking a significant milestone in the group’s ongoing expansion across the Global South.

This development is part of a broader strategy initiated under the partner-country framework, introduced at the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan in October 2024.

The framework enables closer collaboration with nations that align with BRICS’ vision but are not full members, fostering deeper political, economic, and diplomatic ties.

With Vietnam’s entry, the partner network now includes ten nations: Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, BRICS’ full membership currently stands at eleven countries Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

Vietnam’s participation signals its commitment to BRICS’ priorities, including advocacy for a more inclusive international order and stronger South-South cooperation.

Brazil highlighted Vietnam’s strategic importance in the global economy, underscoring its growing role in regional and global governance, as CoinStats reported.

While some critics express concern over potential challenges in internal policy coordination, proponents argue that Vietnam brings added economic strength and innovation capacity.

They contend that the diversity of new partners enhances BRICS’ strategic direction and reinforces its relevance in shaping a new global financial architecture.
