Uzbekistan appoints honorary consul in Sindh to boost trade ties

October 29, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan-Uzbekistan trade and investment cooperation is set to gain momentum following the appointment of Khalid Mahmood as Uzbekistan’s Honorary Consul in Sindh.

The appointment aims to strengthen bilateral economic relations, expand business partnerships, attract Pakistani investment and tourism to Uzbekistan, and increase the presence of Uzbek products in Pakistani markets.

In his new role, Khalid Mahmood will also work to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens residing in Sindh and adjoining areas, while promoting cooperation in science, medicine, education, culture and humanitarian affairs.

Facilitating the orderly management of labour migration will also be among his responsibilities.

Commenting on his appointment, Mahmood described the role as both an honour and a significant responsibility. He pledged to use his knowledge and resources to deepen bilateral cooperation, strengthen commercial links between companies in the two countries and support investment initiatives.

Khalid Mahmood serves as Chairman of Pakistan’s Getz Pharma Pvt. Ltd., the UAE-based Getz Pharma International FZ LLC, and Scitech International DMCC holding companies. He has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, international business management, investment, export development and institutional development.

Getz Pharma has established a presence in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East. In 2018, Novugen Pharma FE LLC was established in Uzbekistan.

The appointment is expected to provide further opportunities for engagement between Pakistani and Uzbek business communities and strengthen cooperation across trade, investment, healthcare, science and culture.
