Trump urges Israel to scale back ahead of US-Iran talks

April 10, 2026 (MLN): U.S President Donald Trump has expressed
confidence that the United States and Iran could reach a peace agreement, as
high-level negotiations are scheduled to take place in Islamabad this weekend.
The talks aim to bring an end to a nearly six-week conflict
that has escalated tensions across the Middle East.
President Trump revealed that he has urged Israel to scale
down its military operations in Lebanon to create a more favorable environment
for the Pakistan-facilitated discussions, in a phone interview with NBC,
according to APP.
The US delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance,
with the goal of resolving the broader conflict involving the United States,
Israel, and Iran.
The situation intensified after Tehran launched retaliatory
strikes targeting energy facilities in neighboring countries allied with
Washington, where US military bases are located.
During the interview, President Trump suggested that Iranian
officials adopt a more conciliatory tone during negotiations compared to their
public statements.
He claimed that they appear more willing to make necessary
concessions in private discussions.
However, Trump also issued a warning, stating that failure
to reach an agreement could result in serious consequences.
His remarks come as a recently announced ceasefire faces
early challenges, with disputes emerging over developments in the Strait of
Hormuz and Iran cautioning Israel against continued strikes in Lebanon.
When asked about his communication with Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he confirmed that he had encouraged de-escalation.
According to him, Israeli forces are expected to reduce the intensity of their
operations.
The ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan, has opened a narrow diplomatic window, with Iran’s envoy to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, confirming the delegation’s arrival on social media.
