September 30, 2025 (MLN): A rare gathering of hundreds of senior US military officers has been summoned to a base near Washington, where President Donald Trump will deliver remarks on Tuesday.

The unusual event, taking place at Quantico, has not been given a public explanation by the Pentagon.

The meeting comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the military both domestically and internationally, as reported by APP.

Trump has deployed troops in two Democratic-run US cities and ordered lethal strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean.

His administration has also carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and Tehran-backed Yemeni rebels.

The White House schedule lists the 79-year-old Republican president as giving “remarks to the Department of War” at 9:00 am (1300 GMT).

Asked about the event last week, Trump praised the idea, saying: “I love it. I mean, I think it’s great.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who organized the event, will also address the assembled officers.

Vice President JD Vance has rejected speculation over the reason for the meeting, telling reporters that it was “actually not unusual at all” and suggesting the media had exaggerated its significance.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell stated only that Hegseth “will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week.”

The gathering will reportedly bring together officers with one-star rank and above, drawing key commanders away from their global posts. The lack of clarity has fueled speculation that a major announcement could be made.

In May, Hegseth ordered significant cuts to the number of general and flag officers, including a 20% reduction in active-duty four-star generals and admirals, following earlier plans to reduce civilian personnel by at least 5%.

Since January, Trump has also dismissed a series of senior officers, including Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen.

Charles “CQ” Brown, the chiefs of the Navy and Coast Guard, and the heads of the NSA and DIA, along with several other top-ranking officials.

US forces have meanwhile carried out a nearly two-month campaign of strikes against Yemen’s Iran-backed Huthi rebels and hit three Iranian nuclear sites earlier this year.

Domestically, troops have been deployed in Los Angeles and Washington, DC, with similar deployments planned for Portland, Memphis, and potentially other cities.
