Senator Aurangzeb, OPEC Fund engage on M6 loan agreement

October 15, 2026 (MLN): Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has discussed financing for the M6 motorway project with the OPEC Fund for International Development, with the project agreement possibly to be signed when he visits the Fund on its invitation.

The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue met Fund President Dr Abdulhamid Alkhalifa on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, said a press release issued.

Senator Aurangzeb briefed Dr Alkhalifa on Pakistan’s economic stabilisation, progress under the IMF programme and renewed access to international capital markets.

He welcomed the Fund’s readiness to widen its trade and project financing support for Pakistan.

The talks on the M6 motorway covered the first tranche, which has been approved, the loan agreement that is still pending, and the tranches to follow.

The two sides also named the ML-1 railway modernisation and power transmission infrastructure as key priorities.

Both sides stressed the need for faster approvals and closer coordination so that projects are delivered on time, and also exchanged views on regional peace and stability.

Senator Aurangzeb thanked Dr Alkhalifa for the invitation to visit the Fund.
