SIFC clears way for $200m Khuzdar mining investment

August 06, 2026 (MLN): The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has resolved long-standing issues surrounding the Barite-Lead-Zinc (BLZ) Project in Khuzdar, unlocking a strategic investment of $200 million and to advance Pakistan's push to develop its mineral resources.

The project, on SIFC's agenda since December 2023, is being developed by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in a joint venture with Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME), with PPL serving as operator and holding a 50% working interest, said a press release issued.

Long-pending lease-related issues were resolved through SIFC's facilitation, clearing the way for the project to move forward.

A key milestone came with the signing of the Operational Agreement at the Pakistan Mineral Forum 2025, marking the start of the implementation phase.

Located in the mineral-rich district of Khuzdar, Balochistan, the BLZ Project ranks among Pakistan's most promising mining ventures, with estimated reserves of 69 million tons and a projected mine life of 34 years.

It is expected to generate annual revenues of $150-230 million, while contributing significantly to mineral exports, employment generation, and economic development in the province.

The project's progress reflects the government's commitment to building an investor-friendly environment by removing bottlenecks, facilitating strategic investments, and accelerating the responsible development of the country's mineral resources.

The achievement highlights SIFC's role in unlocking Pakistan's untapped mining potential, strengthening investor confidence, and supporting sustainable economic growth through high-impact mineral sector investments.
