September 03, 2025 (MLN):  The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) hosted a  webinar for the COMCEC Capital Market Regulators (CMR) Forum Sustainability Task Force, focusing on the implementation of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) reporting standards.

The CMR Forum, established under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), provides a collaborative platform for capital market regulators of member states to advance sustainable finance, ESG reporting, and the adoption of international sustainability frameworks.

The session attracted strong participation from member jurisdictions and professional bodies, reflecting growing regional momentum toward sustainability reporting.

Key perspectives were shared by regulators and institutions from Pakistan, Türkiye, and Malaysia, addressing regulatory frameworks, capacity-building efforts, and challenges in adopting ISSB standards.

Representing Pakistan, the SECP outlined its regulatory journey and phased roadmap for ISSB adoption, emphasizing initiatives to enhance market readiness and stakeholder engagement.

The Commission highlighted that Pakistan is not only keeping pace with regional peers but, in several areas, moving ahead demonstrating its proactive approach and strong commitment to advancing ESG practices.

Contributions from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), Türkiye’s Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority, and the Securities Commission Malaysia added further depth to the dialogue, offering practical insights and international best practices.

Discussions throughout the webinar underscored the importance of capacity building, regional collaboration, and phased implementation strategies for effective ISSB adoption.

The SECP reaffirmed its commitment to fostering cooperation among OIC member states and strengthening sustainability reporting frameworks in alignment with global standards.
