SECP, Iqra University introduce Shariah-Compliant contest for women

October 28, 2026 (MLN): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Iqra University have launched a two-month practical investment competition titled “Empowered Women Ethical Investments” for women across Pakistan.

The competition is open to female students, faculty members, and staff of universities nationwide, the SECP said.

SECP Commissioner Imtiaz Haider said financial literacy and informed decision-making are essential to increasing women's participation in the financial sector.

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), attended the ceremony as the chief guest, alongside representatives of Islamic financial institutions.

The SECP said measures to improve women's access to financial resources include the approval of the digital financing product “Khud Mukhtar Khatoon” and a simplified account-opening procedure.

Women have a significant presence in the non-banking finance sector. As of June 30, 2026, women accounted for 59% of borrowers in non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and 82% of borrowers in microfinance, the SECP said.

During fiscal year 2025–26, Rs236.2 billion in loans were disbursed to women through non-banking microfinance.

The initiative aims to develop women's investment skills through practical experience and financial education, enabling them to make informed financial decisions, the SECP said.
