SBP to remain closed on March 23

March 16, 2026 (MLN): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will remain closed on Monday, March 23, 2026, in observance of Pakistan Day, according to a circular issued by the central bank on Monday.

In its BPRD Circular, the SBP informed the Presidents and Chief Executives of all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) that the central bank will observe a public holiday as declared by the Government of Pakistan.

As a result, all banking institutions across the country will remain closed on the said date.

Pakistan Day is observed annually on March 23 to commemorate the historic Lahore Resolution, which was passed on this day in 1940 during the annual session of the All-India Muslim League in Lahore.

The resolution laid the foundation for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent, which later materialized as Pakistan in 1947.

Every year, the occasion is commemorated with national ceremonies, including a military parade in the federal capital, Islamabad, along with various events celebrating the country’s history and achievements.
