SBP reserves rise $33m to $17.26bn

July 23, 2026 (MLN): The foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by $32.8 million or 0.19% WoW to $17.26 billion during the week ended on July 17, 2026, data released by State Bank of Pakistan showed on Thursday.

However, the country's total liquid foreign exchange reserves slipped by $5.9m, or 0.03% WoW, to $22.67bn, as reserves held by commercial banks declined during the week.

Separately, the SBP also released its monthly reserves data, which showed that the central bank's reserves increased by $1.19bn to $18.3762bn at the end of June 2026, compared with $17.1893bn at the end of May 2026.

On a yearly basis, SBP reserves rose by $3.87bn, or 26.68%, from $14.5058bn in June 2025.

According to the weekly data, foreign exchange reserves held by the SBP stood at $17.2586bn, up from $17.2258bn a week earlier.

Meanwhile, net foreign reserves held by commercial banks fell by $38.7m, or 0.71% WoW, to $5.4110bn from $5.4497bn in the previous week.

As a result, the country's total liquid foreign reserves decreased to $22.6696bn from $22.6755bn a week earlier.

The central bank's reserves have increased by $1.20bn, or 7.38%, since the beginning of the current calendar year.

The monthly data further showed that net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at $4.8574bn at the end of June 2026, down by $62.8m from $4.9202bn a month earlier. However, compared with $4.7634bn in June 2025, commercial banks' reserves were higher by $94m.

Pakistan's total liquid foreign reserves stood at $23.2336bn at the end of June 2026, increasing by $1.1241bn from $22.1095bn a month earlier. On a year-on-year basis, total reserves were up by $3.9644bn, or 20.57%, compared with June 2025.
