SBP prohibits IBIs’ funds to conventional parents

June 12, 2026 (MLN): The State Bank of Pakistan has clarified that Islamic Banking Institutions are not permitted to place any funds with their conventional parent or head office under a contract of Qard or any other form of subsidised financing.

Any such placements already executed must be withdrawn with immediate effect, according to SBP notice.

The restriction, however, does not extend to funds placed at a head office for the purpose of meeting regulatory requirements, which remain permissible.
