Russia eyes investment in Pakistan’s mining sector

June 20, 2025 (MLN): In a key development at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, Russia expressed interest in investing in Pakistan’s mining sector, following high-level talks between Minister for Energy Ali Pervaiz Malik and senior Russian officials.
During a bilateral meeting with Mr. Alexey Shemetov, First Deputy Director of Rosatom Minerals, Minister Malik extended an invitation for collaboration in mineral exploration and technological advancement.
Rosatom showed readiness to explore investment opportunities and present proposals focused on enhancing safety and operational efficiency in Pakistan’s mining industry.
On the sidelines of the forum, Minister Malik also met with his counterpart, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, who co-chairs the Pakistan-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IGC).
Both sides discussed expanding cooperation across energy, trade, connectivity, banking, insurance, and people-to-people exchanges.
Russia reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral ties and welcomed the upcoming 10th session of the IGC, scheduled to be held in Islamabad in Q2 2025.
