Rupee gains against USD, closes at 276.91

October 16, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up against the US dollar in the interbank market on Friday, gaining 1.06 paisa to close at PKR 276.91, compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 276.92.

During the session, the dollar recorded an intraday high bid of PKR 277.00 and a low ask of PKR 276.90.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.20 for buying and PKR 279.70 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee weakened against the euro by 55.57 paisa, or 0.18%, to settle at PKR 311.33 from PKR 310.78 in the previous session.

The local currency also depreciated by Rs1.66, or 0.45%, against the British pound, closing at PKR 368.85 compared with PKR 367.18 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss franc, the rupee lost Rs1.65, or 0.49%, to close at PKR 335.77.

Meanwhile, the rupee appreciated by 0.29 paisa, or 0.17%, against the Japanese yen, with the exchange rate settling at PKR 1.7522 versus PKR 1.7551 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the local currency weakened by 2.85 paisa, or 0.07%, to close at PKR 41.41 compared with PKR 41.38 previously.

The rupee also depreciated by 1.68 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi riyal to PKR 73.79, while losing 0.63 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.40.

During the current fiscal year, the Pakistani rupee has appreciated by Rs1.25, or 0.45%, against the US dollar. Its gain against the greenback has reached Rs3.21, or 1.16%, since the beginning of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 12.18% and 12.43%, respectively.
