PKR extends gains, closes at 277.7 against USD

August 10, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar in the interbank market on Monday, gaining 0.93 paisa to close at PKR 277.70 per dollar compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.71.

During the trading session, the rupee touched an intraday high of 277.85 on the buying side, while the lowest level on the selling side was recorded at 277.70.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.20 for buying and PKR 278.75 for selling.

The local currency weakened against most major international currencies. Against the euro, the rupee declined by PKR 1.21, or 0.38%, to settle at 321.15 from 319.94 a day earlier.

The rupee also fell by PKR 1.56, or 0.42%, against the British pound, closing at 374.97 compared with 373.41 in the previous session.

Against the Swiss franc, the local currency depreciated by PKR 1.73, or 0.50%, to close at 343.92.

Meanwhile, the rupee posted a marginal gain against the Japanese yen, appreciating by 0.01 paisa, or 0.01%, to settle at 1.7524 versus 1.7525 previously.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee weakened by 1.14 paisa, or 0.03%, to close at 41.17 compared with 41.16 a day earlier.

The local currency strengthened against regional currencies, gaining 0.64 paisa, against the Saudi riyal to close at 73.96. It also appreciated by 1.07 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE dirham, ending at 75.61.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has gained 45.95 paisa, or 0.17%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. Since the start of the calendar year, the local currency has appreciated by PKR 2.42, equivalent to 0.87%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.51% and 11.76%, respectively.
