July 23, 2026 (MLN): The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) delegation concluded its visit to China by securing orders for 60,000 metric tons of Pakistani rice from leading Chinese buyers in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, marking a significant outcome of its trade promotion activities.
According to REAP, the achievement shows the growing demand
for Pakistani rice in the Chinese market and reinforces the confidence of
Chinese importers in its quality, distinctive aroma, competitive pricing, and
reliable supply.
The 17-member delegation, led by Senior Vice Chairman REAP
Muhammad Jawed Jillani, visited Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan from July 20
to July 24, 2026.
Upon arrival at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the
delegation was received by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou,
which also hosted a welcome dinner.
The Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, in
collaboration with the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce of Importers and Exporters
(GDCCIE), organised a B2B matchmaking event that brought together 17 Pakistani
rice exporters and 18 Chinese enterprises for business-focused discussions on
prospective cooperation in the rice, sesame and maize sectors.
During the event, Trade and Investment Counsellor Muhammad
Imran invited Chinese enterprises to participate in the FoodAgro exhibition
scheduled to be held in Karachi from November 23 to 26, 2026, according to
media reports.
The delegation also held meetings at Guangdong Agribusiness
Group and the Guangzhou International Cooperation Center. Muhammad Jawed
Jillani, Rafique Suleman and Mahesh Kumar introduced the delegation members to
leading Chinese buyers and business representatives, while Rafique Suleman
delivered a presentation on Pakistan's rice export sector.
The meetings were followed by interactive
business-to-business (B2B) sessions, during which Pakistani exporters held
discussions and negotiations with Chinese importers.
At the conclusion of the meetings, Muhammad Jawed Jillani,
Rafique Suleman and Mahesh Kumar presented REAP shields to their Chinese
counterparts as a gesture of friendship and goodwill.
The delegation also called on Consul General of Pakistan to
Guangzhou, Sardar Muhammad, who discussed the potential for increasing rice
exports to China in light of comparative trade data for the past three years
and sought the delegation's views on issues and challenges in the Chinese
market.
The delegation shared its experiences regarding exports to
China and sought the support of the Mission and the Government of Pakistan in
engaging with the Chinese authorities to help address the challenges faced by
rice exporters.
It also shared insights into Pakistan's rice industry and
its export performance to China, expressing hope to deepen bilateral
collaboration in rice exports and strengthen overall trade relations.
Speaking on the successful conclusion of the visit, Muhammad
Jawed Jillani described the securing of orders for 60,000 metric tons of rice
as a landmark achievement for Pakistan's rice export sector.
He said the orders demonstrate the effectiveness of REAP's
efforts to promote Pakistani rice in international markets and strengthen trade
relations with China, adding that China remains one of the most important
strategic markets for Pakistan's rice industry.
Rafique Suleman said Pakistani rice has earned a strong
reputation among Chinese consumers owing to its quality, rich aroma,
consistency and value, adding that sustained engagement with international
buyers and regular trade promotion activities would help Pakistan expand its
presence in the global rice trade.
REAP said it remains committed to promoting Pakistani rice,
strengthening Pakistan-China trade relations and creating new export
opportunities.
