Petroleum sales drop 16% MoM to 1.26m tons in August

September 2, 2026 (MLN): Sales volumes of petroleum products by oil marketing companies (OMCs) fell 3% year-on-year to 1.26 million tons in August 2026, from 1.30 million tons in the same month last year, data released by the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) showed.

On a month-on-month basis, industry sales dropped 16% compared to 1.51m tons in July 2026.

Motor spirit (MS) sales stood at 0.67m tons in August, down 9% from the previous month and roughly flat year-on-year, as elevated fuel prices weighed on consumption.

High-speed diesel (HSD) sales declined sharply, falling 32% month-on-month and 19% year-on-year to 0.42m tons. Furnace oil (FO) sales, by contrast, surged 429% year-on-year and 26% month-on-month to 0.10m tons, though from a low base.

On a cumulative basis, industry sales for 2MFY27 rose 10% year-on-year to 2.77m tons, compared to 2.52m tons in 2MFY26.

Among individual companies, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) posted total sales of 0.57m tons in August, up 4% year-on-year but down 19% month-on-month.

Attock Petroleum (APL) recorded sales of 0.12m tons, up 8% year-on-year and down 5% month-on-month. WAFI's sales came in at 0.11m tons, up 1% year-on-year and down 18% month-on-month, while Hascol Petroleum (HASCOL) reported sales of 0.04m tons, down 16% both year-on-year and month-on-month.
