Petrol pump owners call nationwide strike

July 21, 2026 (MLN): Negotiations between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik and the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association over the issue of daily fuel price revisions ended without an agreement, prompting the association to announce a nationwide strike.

The association said petrol pumps across the country will remain closed from 12:00 midnight tomorrow following the breakdown of talks.

Speaking after the meeting, association representative Noman Butt said discussions with the petroleum minister failed to produce a consensus, reiterating that petrol pump owners do not accept the system of daily fuel price adjustments, according to media reports.

Association Chairman Humayun Khan said petrol dealers want fuel prices to be fixed on a monthly basis along with their commission. He added that the existing pricing mechanism was creating serious operational difficulties for dealers.

He further said the government, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), and oil marketing companies were contributing to uncertainty through daily price revisions.

Humayun Khan also said petrol dealers were not consulted during the policy-making process, adding that the association would begin a nationwide strike from 12:00 midnight tomorrow.
