April 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan's petroleum, oil and lubricants import volumes rose 4% month-on-month (MoM) to 1.34 million metric tonnes (MT) in March 2026, broadly flat on a year-on-year (YoY) basis.

For the nine months of FY26 (9MFY26), cumulative imports reached 13.28 million MT, a notable 6% increase over the 12.49 million MT recorded in the same period last year.

Data compiled by Arif Habib Limited (AHL), shows that motor gasoline (MOGAS) continued to dominate the import mix, accounting for 82% of petroleum product imports in March, roughly in line with its 81% share in March 2025  reflecting sustained demand from the transport sector despite elevated retail prices.

Crude oil imports declined 9% MoM to 765,263 MT in March, though they remain 3% lower than the same month last year.

On a nine-month basis, crude imports of 7.84 million MT are 17% ahead of the prior year's tally of 6.69 million MT, pointing to a structurally higher refinery throughput cycle in FY26.

High-speed diesel (HSD) posted a sharp 153% MoM rebound to 104,689 MT, following a steep dip in February.

On the crude mix, imported crude's share of the total refinery feed fell to 74% in March from 79% in February, as domestic crude production edged up 7% MoM to 64,915 barrels per day (BOPD).

The natural gas picture saw a dramatic shift: domestic natural gas supply surged 12% MoM to 3,055 mmcfd in March, pushing its share of the total gas mix to 94% while RLNG volumes plunged 75% MoM to just 201 mmcfd. On a 9MFY26 basis, however, RLNG's average share stands at 23%, broadly consistent with year-ago levels.

On the export side, total energy exports jumped 20% MoM to 149,057 tonnes in March, driven entirely by furnace oil (FO), as crude condensate and naphtha exports were absent during the month.

FO exports of 129,900 tonnes were 31% below March 2025 levels, though the 9MFY26 cumulative FO export tally of 1.26 million tonnes is 12% above last year's comparable figure. Total 9MFY26 exports of 1.50 million tonnes are 6% ahead YoY.
