Pakistan’s reforms win IMF praise

April 16, 2026 (MLN): The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has praised Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform efforts, highlighting their role in strengthening macroeconomic stability and investor confidence.

In a post on social media following her meeting with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb during the IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings 2026, Georgieva noted that Pakistan’s consistent implementation of its reform programme has delivered tangible stability gains.

“Strong program implementation has helped Pakistan maintain macroeconomic stability and build confidence,” she stated, adding that sustained progress will depend on continued sound policies and deeper structural reforms aimed at supporting long-term growth and improving public welfare.

Georgieva further emphasized that maintaining policy discipline and advancing reforms remain essential for ensuring sustainable economic development.

The remarks come at a time when Pakistan is engaging with the International Monetary Fund under ongoing reform and stabilization efforts, while strengthening coordination with global financial institutions to support economic recovery and growth.
