Pakistan’s power generation rises to 12,755 GWh in May 2025

June 25, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country increased by 1% year-on-year (YoY) to 12,755 GWh during May 2025, as compared to 12,917 GWh in the same month of last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the total power generation also increased by 21% month-on-month (MoM) compared to 10,513 GWh in April 2025.

On a cumulative basis, in 11MFY25, electricity generation stood at 113,416 GWh, largely flat with a marginal decrease of 0.3% compared to 113,705 GWh in 11MFY24.

Production from Local Coal and Hydel rose by 3% and 24% YoY, respectively, while Nuclear, Solar, and Gas saw changes of -15%, -7%, and -20%, respectively.

RLNG witnessed a 21% decline YoY. Share-wise, Hydel led electricity generation during May 2025, contributing 38% of the total generation.

This was followed by RLNG at 17%, Nuclear at 15.8%, Local Coal at 11.1%, and Gas at 6.9%.

Cumulatively, Hydel remained the largest contributor in 11MFY25, with a share of 30.5%, followed by Nuclear at 18.6%, RLNG at 17.6%, Local Coal at 12.4%, and Gas at 9%.
