Pakistan's constitutional court earns TÜRK-AY observer membership

July 20, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan's Federal Constitutional Court (FCCP) has been unanimously admitted as an Observer to the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Turkic World (TÜRK-AY), marking a significant milestone in the Court's engagement with the international constitutional justice community.

The decision was formally communicated through a letter from Farhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Term President of TÜRK-AY, to Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, according to the press release.

According to the communication, the admission was unanimously approved by the member courts of TÜRK-AY under Article 10.4 of the Statute of the Organization.

In his letter, Abdullayev congratulated and welcomed the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, expressing confidence that the Court's expertise, knowledge, and reputation would contribute meaningfully to the work of TÜRK-AY.

He also expressed the expectation that Pakistan's participation would promote cooperation, mutual understanding, and institutional relations based on shared constitutional values.

Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan welcomed the development, describing the unanimous admission as a reflection of international confidence in Pakistan's constitutional jurisprudence and the Federal Constitutional Court's commitment to promoting the rule of law, constitutional governance, and judicial cooperation across jurisdictions.

The observer status will provide the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan with a platform to engage with constitutional courts of the Turkic world, exchange judicial experiences and best practices, participate in academic and institutional dialogue, and contribute to the advancement of constitutional justice through international collaboration.

The Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Turkic World (TÜRK-AY) was established on April 27, 2022, in Istanbul, Türkiye, to promote cooperation among constitutional courts of the Turkic world. Its full members are the constitutional courts of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening engagement with constitutional courts and judicial institutions worldwide in furtherance of constitutionalism, judicial independence, and the effective protection of fundamental rights.
