March 11, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan is set to witness a major leap in digital connectivity following the successful auction of the 5G spectrum, a move expected to revolutionize the country’s telecommunications landscape.

The auction promises faster internet speeds, improved network reliability, and a more robust technological infrastructure, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s digital transformation, according to a press release issued.

Addressing a ceremony organized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said the auction was conducted with unprecedented transparency.

He described the transition to 5G technology as a monumental step for Pakistan’s digital future and thanked the private sector for its trust in government-led initiatives, highlighting that strong public-private collaboration would help drive economic growth.

Earlier, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb described the auction as an important milestone for the IT sector, expressing confidence that it would contribute positively to the national economy.

He highlighted that as Pakistan moves toward a new economy encompassing technologies such as AI, blockchain, and Web 3.0, the availability of spectrum would play a crucial role in supporting these advancements.

Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima emphasized that this is the country’s largest spectrum auction and expressed confidence that it would double spectrum availability.

She highlighted that 4G services would significantly improve over the next four to five months, while 5G services are expected to be available in five major cities within five to six months.

Shaza Fatima also expressed optimism that the conducive conditions of the auction would ensure its overall success, marking one of the most important days in Pakistan’s technological history.
