September 30, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has identified visa facilitation, direct air connectivity, and efficient logistics as key areas to expand bilateral trade, tourism, and business exchanges with Russia.
Ambassador of Pakistan to the Russian Federation Faisal Niaz Tirmizi highlighted the measures during the International Business Trends Forum 2026 at MGIMO University in Moscow.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said shifting global trade patterns require stronger partnerships and better regional connectivity, and that Pakistan’s geographic position could help connect Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.
He highlighted the role of regional platforms including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, SAARC and Economic Cooperation Organization in improving trade, transport and economic integration.
The Ambassador said Pakistan’s land and maritime routes could support wider regional trade and connectivity if supported by efficient logistics and business facilitation.
He also emphasized the importance of closer links between businesses and scientific institutions to support innovation and sustainable economic growth.
Pakistan’s demographic profile was also highlighted, as around 68% of the country’s population is under the age of 30, creating a large potential workforce and consumer market.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said stronger business, scientific and institutional links could help convert this demographic potential into economic opportunities.
He also pointed to continued high-level engagement between Pakistan and Russia, including a planned visit by the Russian Interior Minister to Pakistan in October.
The forum brought together officials, diplomats, academics and business representatives to discuss international business trends, technology, emerging markets and economic cooperation.
