Pakistan wins historic gold at Macao Stamp Expo

July 08, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has secured a landmark achievement in international philately after prominent businessman and noted philatelist M Arif Balgamwala became the first Pakistani to win a Gold Medal in the prestigious Five-Frame category at the Macao 2026 Specialized World Stamp Exhibition.

Balgamwala received the award for his exhibit, “British India Stamps Overprints Pakistan 1947–1949,” marking the first time in Pakistan's 79-year history that a philatelist from the country has claimed a Gold Medal in the highly competitive Five-Frame category.

The accomplishment also makes him the first philatelist worldwide to achieve this distinction with the exhibit, according to APP.

The recognition at Macao further strengthens an already remarkable year for Balgamwala on the global philatelic stage. Earlier in 2026, he won a Gold Medal at the Dubai 2026 World Stamp Exhibition for his exhibit, “Pakistan Overprints on India Stationery 1947–1949.”

He also made history by becoming the first Pakistani to be inducted into the Court of Honor at the Boston World Stamp Expo 2026 in the United States, one of the highest distinctions awarded to leading exhibitors in international philately.

The latest achievement has brought Pakistan significant recognition in the global philatelic community and marks a milestone for the country's participation in international stamp exhibitions.
