June 04, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan's Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) has driven a record influx of foreign tourists, with over one million international visitors arriving last year, a 9.2x surge compared to previous years as the programme's three-year push to develop the tourism sector yields measurable results.

Agreements for 78 tourism sites were finalised within 18 months under the initiative, while 15 of 17 planned hotels and recreational facilities have been opened to visitors.

Visa facilitation measures have also been introduced to ease entry for international tourists, according to Radio Pakistan.

GPI's "Salam Pakistan" campaign has promoted the country's scenic and cultural offerings on the global stage, complemented by the regular organisation of the Sustainable Tourism Forum since 2024, which has been generating new avenues for tourism development and investment.

The momentum has drawn international recognition as well  US broadcaster CNN last year ranked Gilgit-Baltistan among the world's top 25 tourist destinations.
