October 12, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan will pursue investment, trade and economic cooperation with global financial institutions, international investors and development partners through more than 60 high-level engagements during the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026, scheduled for October 12–18 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb is departing for Bangkok to lead Pakistan’s participation in the annual meetings, where he will present the country’s economic outlook, progress on structural reforms and investment opportunities to the international financial community.

The engagements come as Pakistan seeks to build on macroeconomic stabilization and transition towards sustainable growth driven by investment, exports and private sector activity. Discussions will also focus on strengthening international capital market access, deepening development partnerships and advancing economic reforms.

During the visit, the Finance Minister will meet the leadership of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank Group, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) to discuss Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook, reform implementation, private sector development and future cooperation.

He will also attend the IMF Managing Director’s meeting with finance ministers, central bank governors and heads of regional financial institutions from the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAP) region.

Pakistan will engage with several multilateral and development finance institutions, including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), OPEC Fund for International Development, Saudi Fund for Development, International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, Japan International Cooperation Agency, ECO Trade and Development Bank, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and International Organization for Migration.

Bilateral discussions are planned with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, Iran, the United Kingdom and host country Thailand to strengthen economic, investment, trade and development ties.

The Finance Minister will also meet the U.S. Department of the Treasury to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, Pakistan’s reform programme and its investment agenda.

Engagement with global investors and capital markets will form a key part of the visit. The Finance Minister will participate in investment seminars, sovereign investor forums and roundtable discussions involving major financial institutions, including JP Morgan, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, MUFG, Mashreq Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Ajman Bank, Barclays, Bank of America, Jefferies International, Alvarez & Marsal and MSCI.

These engagements will provide an opportunity to present Pakistan’s macroeconomic progress, structural reform priorities, access to international markets and potential investment opportunities. Discussions with Alibaba International Digital Commerce will also cover prospects in the digital economy, e-commerce and investment.

The Finance Minister will participate in several multilateral forums, including the G-24 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting, the 17th V20 Ministerial Dialogue, the 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, the Ministerial Dialogue on Accelerating Implementation for More and Better Jobs, the inaugural meeting of the Governing Council of the Borrowers’ Forum and the Annual Meetings Plenary.

Policy discussions will include sessions on mitigating sovereign risks in market-access countries and transforming demographic transitions into human capital gains and job creation.

As part of efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s standing in international capital markets, Senator Aurangzeb will meet representatives of the three major global sovereign credit rating agencies Fitch Ratings, Moody’s and S&P Global to present the country’s economic performance and reform trajectory.

The programme will also include interactions with international media outlets, including Reuters, Bloomberg, Nikkei Asia, Channel News Asia, The Wall Street Journal and AFP, alongside policy engagements with the Atlantic Council and Eurasia Group. These discussions will focus on Pakistan’s economic outlook, stabilization efforts, structural reforms and investment prospects.

Throughout the visit, Pakistan will seek to demonstrate progress in restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening fiscal and external buffers, implementing structural reforms and re-engaging with international capital markets. The government will also outline its priorities for export growth, investment, job creation, private sector development and financial inclusion.

The participation shows Pakistan’s efforts to deepen engagement with the global economic and financial community and translate macroeconomic stabilization into sustainable, investment-led and inclusive economic growth.
