Pakistan targets Nigerian beauty market in West Africa

November 28, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan intensified its trade diplomacy in West Africa this week as senior government officials held a series of meetings with key Nigerian agencies to address market-access hurdles, regulatory bottlenecks, and financial barriers affecting Pakistani exporters.
The discussions, held alongside the Beauty West Africa 2025
exhibition in Lagos, signal Islamabad’s broader effort to expand its footprint
in high-growth African consumer markets, according to the press release.
Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on
Commerce, met with top Nigerian officials including Aisha Rimi of the Nigeria
Investment Promotion Commission, Nonye Ayeni of the Nigeria Export Promotion
Council, and Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi of the Federal Ministry of Industry,
Trade and Investment.
Talks centered on improving trade logistics, easing product
certifications, and strengthening facilitation for Pakistani businesses seeking
entry into Nigeria’s fast-expanding beauty and personal-care sector, a market
estimated in the billions of dollars and growing rapidly through urban demand.
The engagement coincided with the participation of 19
Pakistani firms supported by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan
(TDAP), alongside several independent exhibitors, marking one of Pakistan’s
largest showings at a West African trade fair.
Officials also convened a networking dinner with
representatives from Nigeria’s food and drug regulator (NAFDAC) and banking
institutions to address compliance requirements and payment challenges
frequently cited by exporters.
The activity shows Pakistan’s ongoing pivot toward Africa, where consumer goods, cosmetics, and personal-care products present rising export opportunities amid the continent’s expanding middle class and diversified import demand.
