Pakistan seeks stronger Hong Kong ties, pushes trade, finance, aviation cooperation

September 11, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has sought expanded trade and economic cooperation with Hong Kong, including greater collaboration in financial services, aviation and business-to-business connectivity.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held talks with Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Jam Kamal Khan called for greater engagement in trade in services, aviation, finance and business-to-business connectivity.

He particularly urged Hong Kong to consider resuming Cathay Pacific flights to Pakistan, citing improved air connectivity as a potential driver of business, tourism and commercial exchanges.

The minister also highlighted the contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Hong Kong through remittances and people-to-people linkages.

Both sides agreed to explore new areas of mutual economic interest, while Jam Kamal Khan invited the Hong Kong chief executive to visit Pakistan.

The commerce minister separately met Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, with discussions focusing on business delegations, aviation connectivity, finance, services and trade.
