March 10, 2026 (MLN): The government has taken proactive steps to ensure a stable supply of fertilizers across the country, despite challenges in the regional market.
A comprehensive review of urea and DAP availability revealed
that all fertilizer plants are operating at full capacity, gas supply remains
uninterrupted, and logistics systems are functioning efficiently.
Contingency plans have been formulated to address any
potential future disruptions, ensuring that farmers’ needs are fully met.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research,
Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired the high-level Fertilizer Review Committee
meeting, which was attended by senior officials and key stakeholders from
fertilizer manufacturing companies, as reported by APP.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding
agricultural productivity and food security, assuring that farmers will not
face undue burdens.
During the meeting, the current supply and demand situation
of urea and DAP fertilizers was closely reviewed in a regionally challenging
environment.
The minister highlighted that DAP plants are fully
functional and that smooth production and continuous distribution are being
maintained.
Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized the importance of seamless
coordination between manufacturers, distributors, and provincial authorities to
sustain uninterrupted supply chains.
The meeting also stressed monitoring fertilizer prices at
local and provincial levels to prevent artificial shortages or hoarding,
ensuring fertilizers remain accessible and affordable.
The committee explored strategic measures to strengthen
domestic production and reduce reliance on imports.
Alternative supply mechanisms are also ready to be deployed
if necessary, guaranteeing that fertilizers reach farmers under all
circumstances.
Concluding the session, the minister affirmed that the
government remains fully prepared to implement proactive steps to stabilize the
fertilizer market and protect agriculture from regional disruptions, ensuring
farmers’ needs are met both now and in the long term.
