April 24, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has repaid a total of $3.45 billion in deposits to the United Arab Emirates.

This marked a significant step in the country’s ongoing efforts to manage its external obligations and stabilize foreign exchange reserves.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confirmed that $1 billion was returned to the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) on April 23, completing the full repayment cycle.

The latest payment follows the settlement of $2.45 billion earlier in the week.

The repayments relate to financial support extended by the UAE over several years, including $2 billion deposited in 2018 and an additional $1 billion in 2023, according to official disclosures.

In a post on X, the central bank said the transactions conclude all outstanding deposit obligations to the UAE, indicating Pakistan’s commitment to meeting its external financing requirements despite ongoing economic pressures.

The repayments come as Islamabad continues to navigate a tight external position, balancing debt servicing with efforts to rebuild reserves.

Separately, Pakistan has secured a rollover of a $3 billion deposit facility from the Saudi Fund for Development, helping shore up reserves and maintain macroeconomic stability.

The latest developments highlight a dual-track strategy of honoring maturing liabilities while relying on friendly countries to maintain liquidity, a critical factor for investor confidence and currency stability.
