Pakistan records FDI of $1.6bn in FY26

July 17, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan attracted a foreign direct investment (FDI) of $1.64bn in FY26, down from $2.48bn in the Same Period Last Year (SPLY), the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

The country recorded an FDI of $13.5m in June 2026 alone, sharply lower compared to $210m in June 2025. 

Within the direct investments in the review month, there was an inflow of $294.4m, down 6.48% YoY, while the outflow surged to $280.9m, up over 168.03% YoY.

Concerning portfolio investment under FDI, an outflow of $28.7m was witnessed through equity securities as compared to an outflow of $42.9m in June 2025.

Foreign private investment into the country stood at negative $15.2m in June 2026, as compared to private investment worth $167.1m recorded in June 2025. Meanwhile, foreign public investment saw an outflow of $11.8m during the review month through equity securities.

Accordingly, the total foreign divestment in the review month clocked in at $27m, compared to an investment of $184.2m in June 2025.

On a cumulative basis, within FY26, the total foreign divestment stood at $450.6m as compared to foreign investment of $1,746.5m reported in the corresponding period last year.
