Pakistan records $254m current account deficit in July

August 19, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has recorded a current account deficit of $254 million, the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) revealed today.

Last month, the country recorded a current account surplus of $335m, while in July 2024, the current account deficit stood at $348m.


During July, total exports rose by 16.6% to $3.49bn compared to $2.99bn in the same month of last year. While it rose 5% against the exports of $3.32bn in the previous month.

Total imports rose 9.9% to $6.29bn as compared to the imports worth $5.73bn recorded in July of last year. Compared to the previous month, imports rose 7.8%.

Accordingly, the trade deficit in goods and services rose 2.6% from a year ago to $2.81bn. On a monthly basis, it widened 11.4%.

The data further details that the workers' remittances in July increased by 7.3% to $3.21bn as against $2.99bn in July 2024; while on a monthly basis, the remittances went down by 5.6% as compared to $3.41bn in the previous month.
