June 09, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as a comprehensive roadmap that will directly help the country achieve its development targets.

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar made these remarks at a seminar on China-Pakistan Joint Contributions to the Global Governance Initiative and CPEC, organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies, said a press release issued.

Ahsan Iqbal said the second phase of CPEC encompasses five corridors, Corridor of Growth, Corridor of Livelihoods, Corridor of Innovation, Green Corridor, and Open Corridor  and has been designed keeping in view Pakistan's development requirements.

He added that the Open Corridor is aimed at bringing other countries into CPEC, transforming it into a regional development project.

Highlighting the breadth of bilateral ties, the minister noted that the Pakistan-China friendship is set to reach new heights this year as the first Pakistani astronaut is scheduled to travel to space with China's support.

Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan and China are marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, describing the two countries as "iron brothers" bound by an unbreakable relationship.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent visit to China had further elevated the partnership, and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the Global Governance Initiative under President Xi Jinping's leadership, saying the initiative has already begun delivering results by enhancing representation of the Global South.

The information minister also stressed that cultural exchanges, people-to-people contact, and media cooperation could go a long way in further cementing the Pakistan-China partnership.
