November 12, 2025 (MLN): In a major step to digitally transform the justice system from District Courts to the Supreme Court ensuring accessibility, transparency, and efficiency for citizens, a high-level policy meeting was held to advance the automation and digitization of courts across Pakistan.
The session, chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan,
brought together senior representatives from the judiciary, the Ministry of IT
& Telecommunication, and the Pakistan Digital Authority.
The Chief Justice emphasized that the reform is a
citizen-centric initiative aimed at making justice delivery more transparent
and efficient. He noted that the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee
(NJPMC) will lead the reform process in collaboration with all relevant
stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and long-term sustainability.
During the meeting, the Secretary of the Ministry of IT
& Telecommunication reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting
justice-sector digitization.
The Chairman of the Pakistan Digital Authority outlined
protocols for data governance and cybersecurity, highlighting that the Federal
Government has prioritized nine key sectors, including Law and Justice, under
its National Digital Masterplan to enhance public service delivery.
To align the system design with judicial needs, the Chief
Justice directed the Federal Judicial Academy to hold Focus Group Discussions
involving experts from the Pakistan Digital Authority and other justice-sector
stakeholders.
These consultations will help finalize a checklist
covering infrastructure readiness, connectivity standards, and other baseline
requirements for the digital rollout.
Reaffirming the judiciary’s modernization agenda, the
Chief Justice announced that by August 2026, all courts in Pakistan will be
solar-powered and equipped with e-libraries, women facilitation centers, and
clean drinking water facilities. He added that the next major milestone will be
the establishment of a fully integrated E-Court ecosystem, connecting all tiers
of the judiciary through secure digital platforms.
