March 31, 2026 (MLN): The government, through the
Cabinet Committee to Monitor Petrol Prices, reviewed the country’s petroleum
supply situation and confirmed that fuel availability remains stable despite
ongoing volatility in global oil markets.
Diesel stocks were reported to cover approximately 23–24
days, while petrol supplies remain comfortable.
Crude oil reserves stand at around 11 days, with additional
cargoes in transit to support refinery operations through April.
The committee noted that import plans are being actively
managed, refinery output is being optimized, and procurement efforts are
focused on securing cost-effective supplies amid rising international prices
and tightening market conditions, according to a press release issued.
The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad
Aurangzeb and attended by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Climate Change
Minister Musadik Masood Malik, National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer
Hussain, Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry (virtually),
and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan (virtually), along with senior officials
from relevant ministries and regulatory authorities.
The committee also reviewed fuel import logistics, including
shipping and insurance arrangements, stressing transparency and commercial
prudence.
Members highlighted
the need to monitor rising domestic demand, curb speculative stockpiling, and
ensure smooth distribution nationwide.
Progress on enhancing real-time monitoring through a digital
dashboard was discussed, along with plans to develop a strategic petroleum
reserves framework.
The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring
uninterrupted fuel supply while minimizing the impact of global price
fluctuations on the public.
