September 22, 2025 (MLN): Billions in remittances sent
by Overseas Pakistanis are not just sustaining Pakistan’s economy but also
shaping the country’s global image, earning them praise as the true lifeline of
the nation.
Speaking at a gathering of expatriates in London, Prime
Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said the community’s contribution $38.5bn
dollars in remittances has provided critical support to Pakistan’s financial
stability.
He called overseas Pakistanis “ambassadors of the nation”
whose relentless hard work abroad continues to uplift the country’s prestige
worldwide.
The Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the
expatriate community on what he termed the “great victory” of May 10, when
Pakistan Air Force shot down six Indian fighter jets in retaliation to
aggression.
“It was a tremendous triumph that taught the enemy a lasting
lesson, one they will remember forever,” he said, crediting the success to the
leadership of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as the
unity between political and military leadership.
He also spoke with emotion about the sacrifices of overseas
Pakistanis, noting that life abroad often comes with separation, struggle, and
longing.
He praised their honesty, hard work, and contributions in
every field whether as doctors, engineers, businessmen, or laborers saying they
have raised Pakistan’s honor worldwide.
On the economic front, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that
Pakistan is moving toward debt relief, sustainable growth, and investment-led
progress.
He said the
government is formulating new policies to free the country from dependence on
loans, attract investment, and place Pakistan on the path to greatness.
He stressed that the positive economic indicators and
diplomatic achievements being witnessed today are a result of Allah’s blessings
and the collective resolve of civilian and military leadership.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to peace, Shehbaz Sharif
emphasized the need for dialogue with India on an equal footing, especially on
the Kashmir issue.
He also condemned Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza,
terming them unprecedented atrocities, and urged the Muslim Ummah to play a
more active role in restoring peace in the Middle East.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, in his remarks, described
overseas Pakistanis as a vital bridge between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
He recalled that when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)
government assumed office in 2022, the country was on the brink of default, but
through reforms and fiscal discipline, the economy was stabilized. He added
that inflation and interest rates are now declining, while key indicators show
improvement.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif called expatriates’
remittances a lifeline for Pakistan’s economy and described the victory in
Marka-e-Haq as an unprecedented event in the nation’s military history.
Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik
Hussain echoed these sentiments, hailing the diaspora as one of the country’s
greatest assets.
He said recent developments, including Marka-e-Haq and the
Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement, have elevated Pakistan’s image
globally, with unity between political and military leadership translating into
tangible progress.
