Pakistan discusses US-Iran conflict, Strait of Hormuz with Iran

August 25, 2026 (MLN): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi completed a day-long visit to Iran as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate an end to the ongoing US-Iran conflict and promote lasting regional stability.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir held separate meetings with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Representative of the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The discussions centred on diplomatic avenues to de-escalate the conflict, prevent further deterioration of the regional security situation, and accelerate efforts toward a negotiated settlement, according to APP.

The two sides also discussed measures for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, with particular emphasis on bringing the conflict to an early and permanent conclusion.

Pakistan and Iran exchanged views on broader regional security, peace initiatives and possible mechanisms for resolving outstanding disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Iranian leadership acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate communication between the parties and appreciated Islamabad’s role in supporting dialogue, de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Upon his arrival in Iran, Field Marshal Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with senior Iranian civilian and military officials.
