Pakistan deepens Google AI ties to expand digital push

April 14, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan moved to strengthen cooperation on artificial intelligence and digital transformation as Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Karan Bhatia on the sidelines of the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings in Washington.

The meeting highlighted expanding collaboration with Google on AI training, capacity building, and wider digital integration across key sectors of Pakistan’s economy, including agriculture and manufacturing.

Finance Minister acknowledged Google’s growing footprint in the country, including initiatives tied to local assembly of Chromebooks and plans to establish a formal presence in Pakistan in 2026.

This strategic move underscores momentum in the country’s technology ecosystem.

Both sides discussed ongoing and future projects aimed at embedding artificial intelligence into public and private sector workflows, as Islamabad accelerates efforts to modernize its digital infrastructure.

The engagement reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda through expanded technology partnerships and skills development initiatives.
